38 year old woman befriended the 21 year old aboriginal female victim after she had moved alone to Winnipeg from northern Manitoba. The woman took the victims personal items and identification, confined her, assaulted her and forced her to prostitute herself, withholding all of her earnings.

Response & intervention
Charges against the trafficker include forcible confinement, assault and three counts of trafficking in persons relating to harboring, financial gain and withholding documents such as identification.
RCMP responded to a disturbance call to the location the victims was being held. The victim was was drunk and had climbed up on to the roof of the building and was screaming.
“We can only hope that the young woman who was exploited is getting the help that she needs,” said Perrin, who is aware of 36 cases in Canada... Perrin said Canada needs a national action plan, more safe houses and more grassroots prevention and education to bring the issue out of the shadows."
