Privacy Policy

SlaveryMap is a project of Not For Sale ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the choices you have. We treat privacy as a first-order concern: the map itself never publishes precise locations or identifying details about the people behind documented cases.

Data we collect

• Launch-list email. If you ask to be notified about the SlaveryMap community launch, we store the email address you submit.
• Account data (team only). Investigators, editors, and admins sign in to a private admin area; their identity and role are managed by our authentication provider.
• Technical data. Standard server and security logs (such as IP address and request metadata) generated when you use the site.

We do not ask the public for names, payment details, or sensitive personal information, and we do not build advertising profiles.

How we use it

• To email you about the community launch, if you asked us to.
• To operate the private admin area and keep an audit trail of case changes.
• To keep the service secure, reliable, and to diagnose problems.

Service providers

We share limited data with providers who process it on our behalf: our email provider (Brevo) for the launch list, our authentication provider (Clerk) for team accounts, and our hosting and database providers (Vercel and Neon). They act under contract and only to provide their service.

Retention

We keep launch-list emails until the launch concludes or you unsubscribe, whichever comes first. Team account and audit records are kept for as long as the account is active and as needed for security and accountability.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe at any time using the link in our emails; that removes you from the launch list.
• Access or deletion. You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, subject to legal limits.

Cookies

We use only the cookies needed to run the site (for example, to keep signed-in team members authenticated and to remember your light or dark theme). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Children

The site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy; we will revise the date above when we do. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
