Abuk Acueri Yei was kidnapped from her village along with her daughter. The two were split up and Abuk was taken to live with Mohammed. The slave owners tried to make Abuk into a Muslim, going so far as to performing ritual mutilation on Abuk's genitals in the process. At Mohammed and Howeya's home, Abuk was saddled with a host of intensive labor positions including housework and cultivation. She was forced to sleep outside with the livestock. Despite his marriage to Howeya, Mohammed would rape Abuk on many nights, beating her severely if she resisted his amorous behavior.
