What happened

Chesire Martinez Robinson, a/k/a “Candyman,” 30, of Austell, Georgia, was sentenced December 5, 2011 by United States District Judge J. Owen Forrester for conspiracy to engage in, and the commission of, sex trafficking of a minor and transporting a minor in interstate commerce for prostitution. Robinson was convicted of the charges on September 14, 2011, after a jury trial which lasted three days. According to United States Attorney Yates, the indictment and information presented in court: In or about July 2009, and continuing through on or about October 2, 2009, Robinson, a convicted felon, caused the victim, a 16-year-old girl, to engage in prostitution at various hotels and at a truck stop in the Atlanta area. Robinson brought the victim, who he knew to be a minor, from her home in South Carolina to the Atlanta area. He placed photographs of the victim in escort and erotic services sections of various Internet websites, and used those ads to recruit men to engage in commercial sex acts with the victim. The victim worked for Robinson six nights per week for numerous hours each night, giving all of her money to Robinson. During a mere eight weeks, Robinson earned more than $14,000 from the victim’s commercial sex acts.

Response and intervention

Robinson was sentenced to 17 years, 5 months in federal prison, to be followed by 5 years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $14,440, and ordered to register as a sex offender. Assistant United States Attorneys Richard S. Moultrie, Jr. and Nekia S. Hackworth prosecuted the case. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Metro Atlanta Child Exploitation Task Force, with valuable assistance provided by the Douglas County, Georgia, Sheriff’s Office. No aftercare reported.

David Lee Walker Age: 29 Sentenced to 12 years in prison for Human Trafficking and other related charges - May 20, 2011 David Lee Walker, a pimp who operated in the metro Atlanta area, controlled at least five women, all between the ages of 20 and 24. They operated out of Rodeway Inn at Fulton Industrial Boulevard, south of the city. But one night, apparently, one of the girls decided she had had enough and wanted to leave. When Walker wasn't around, she fled to a nearby restaurant - The Varsity - to look for help. But Walker found out, and he ordered the other women he controlled to bring her back to their motel. Walker and the women beat the 21-year-old with a bottle until her eyes swelled shut and there was a hole in her head. Then, one of the women locked her in the dog cage and left her there overnight, with injuries untreated. Five people, including alleged pimp David Lee Walker, are charged with beating the woman until her eyes were swollen shut and she had a hole in her head from being hit with a bottle. The victim was then forced into a 3-by-5 foot dog cage and kept there overnight. Walker sent cell phone pictures of the caged woman to other pimps.

Police investigation led to the intervention and arrests. From the article: "TBO.com Published: May 28, 2009 Pinellas County sheriff's detectives continue to investigate a human trafficking ring and on Thursday announced the arrest of Roosevelt James "Pudgie" Wade, 31, 1910 Cobb Drive in Marietta, Ga., Wade was charged with one count of human trafficking and remained in the Cobb County Jail in Georgia on Thursday, according to local authorities. Since the initial arrests of three men on May 10, detectives say they have talked to additional victims and witnesses and more charges may be filed. In all, six men have been charged. This week, prosecutors dismissed nudity charges against two dancers at the Vegas Showgirls nightclub because they might be victims of the human trafficking ring, they said. The women had been charged with violating a law that prohibits nudity in an establishment that serves alcohol. The Tribune is not using their names because they are alleged to be the victims of sex crimes. Court documents say female victims were transported from a house in Treasure Island to nude dance clubs - including Vegas Showgirls at 10570 Gandy Blvd. - where one woman was forced to have sex with men, documents say.
