In a news report, one of the victims makes a statement that she had previously not known of help in the police, and she now encourages other women who are in similar circumstances for hope in turning to the police.

Charges have been placed on the slave owner and her son. The son of the perpetrator is still under investigation, but the slave owner has been convicted and will be sentenced on 29 May, 2009. All of the victims are currently recovering from emotional and physical scars from the violent attacks of the slave owner. One of the victims is now living in Halifax with her husband.
The victim escaped from the house and ran to the local law enforcement. The victim provided evidence and testimonies to the authorities and to the court, which led to the case against the slave owner.
