The victim was dropped off at the hospital by her perpetrator because she had experienced severe physical abuse from her trafficker. While she was receiving treatment for the physical abuse after receiving psychosocial support from the social worker at the hospital , it emerged that she was a victim of trafficking and that her perpetrator was still trying to make contact with her while she was in hospital.The victim had left her home in the Eastern Cape and ended up in Johannesburg, when she arrived her and her friend were approached by a Nigerian man who promised them employment in Cape Town. On arrival they were forced into sex exploitation in a brothel in the Northern Suburbs in Cape Town. Local NGOs assisted with both the practical support and aftercare support.

The case was reported to the local human trafficking law enforcement task team. Investigation took place and the victim helped identify the brothel where she had been held captive. The case is still under investigation.
The other victims were not yet emancipated, but this victim was kept safe and secure. She was provided with medical, psycho social treatment with a counsellor at a place of safety was found. The NGOs assisted in locating her family from her place of origin and locating support services in her place of origin in addition to practical support( clothing, food and access to medication). The victim’s mother was contacted and after she willingly assisted law enforcement to identify the brothel, she was repatriated and accompanied by law enforcement to return to the Eastern Cape.
