Josue Flores Carreto, Gerardo Flores Carreto, and Daniel Perez Alonso were involved in the Carreto family sex trafficking ring. The three admitted that between 1991 and 2004 they recruited young women from Mexico to come to the U.S. The victims were smuggled to New York City where they were forced to work as prostitutes in brothels. The victims were physically and verbally abused. The victims were forced to perform several sexual acts each day, at the date of $25 to $35. Half of the amount earner went to the owner and manager of the brothel, and the other half was taken by members of the Carreto organization.

Response & intervention
Three other defendants in the case are also facing charges. They are currently being held in prison in Mexico on charges by the Mexican government, they face extradition to the U.S. to face charges here. Josue Carreto, Gerardo Carreto, and Alonso pleaded guilty to 27 counts of various federal charges with their involvement in the sex trafficking ring. Eloy Carreto Reyes, Eliu Carreto Fernandez and Edith Mosquera de Flores have also pleaded guilty to charges related to sexual trafficking.
The case was brought to federal authorities during the summer of 2003 when a complaint was made at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City. The complaint stated that members of the Carreto family were forcing young Mexican women into prostitution in New York City. Federal agents of the NY and NJ ICE offices worked with the NYC police department to raid two apartments in Corona, Queens on January 4, 2004. In the apartments they found Josue Flores Carreto, Gerado Flores Carreto, Daniel Perez Alonso, Eliu Carreto Fernandez, and five young Mexican women. Additional investigations lead to additional arrests.
