Law enforcement had been involved from the beginning of the case. Originally, they were investigating the missing persons report until it became a trafficking case. Both Galindo and Martinez were arrested. Galindo was cited for statutory rape and released. In February, Martinez pleaded not guilty to procuring a child for lewd acts, aiding and abetting statutory rape and child endangerment. On April 7, 2009, Martinez changed his plea to no contest, in exchange for reduced charges of felony child endangerment. Under the conditions of the plea bargain, he will serve up to a year in jail and face deportation after that.

Response & intervention
Martinez was not receiving the agreed upon payments for his daughter by Galindo. Martinez called the Greenfield Police Department to report his daughter missing. On December 18th the PD took out a missing persons report and put up fliers. On January 2nd when the daughter returned from a trip to Soledad, they were interviewed. Galindo and Martinez were arrested, and the marriage arrangement was revealed.
The daughter was not expected to be in any danger, but the incident was reported to Child Protection Officials.
