Helsinki's Court of Appeals has convicted two Estonian men of human trafficking. The convicts were found guilty of forcing a developmentally disabled woman to prostitute herself. The court found that the men kept the woman in an apartment in Helsinki and sold her to more than a hundred men over the course of three weeks. The crimes took place in the summer of 2008. A lower court had given the men suspended 10-month sentences, but the appeals court sentenced both convicts to one and a half years in prison. The trafficking of a developmentally disabled woman was the most grievous accusation in a large package of criminal charges relating to the human trafficking ring, in which around 40 men have been charged.
