The Homewood Police Department investigated the crime after a referral from DHR. The police found that the child in question had been forced by the two traffickers to engage in sexual activities with a 36 year old man. The mother and grandmother arranged for the man to meet the child in a motel room. The US Marshall Service Fugitive Task Force arrested the man charged with the molestation of the child in question. The two traffickers were also arrested by the Homewood Police Department. All three perpetrators were charged with human trafficking, sodomy, and sexual abuse of a child under 12. Response & intervention

The Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) was called in to investigate a case of possible child abuse. Once the investigation began and details were discovered, DHR gave the case over to the local police department. The child was taken into the care of DHR.
