Operation Guardian Angel was created and executed by the Human Trafficking Rescue Project, a joint task force from the Independence PD, the Kansas City MO PD, ICE, and FBI. On April 23, 2010, Doerr was sentenced to 5 years in federal prison. Specific sentencing info was not found. 7 men were arrested during the course of this 2-month sting operation. All of the perpetrators were charged with attempted commercial sex trafficking of a child and using the Internet and telephone to attempt to induce a child to engage in prostitution, and all seven defendants have been indicted and convicted in "the nation’s first-ever federal prosecution of the alleged customers of child prostitution under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act."

The arrest and subsequent conviction of Doerr resulted from an undercover law enforcement sting operation called Operation Guardian Angel. The sting involved an online advertisement that included the statement, "While there mommas away these girls will play. My girlfriend is out of town her daughters are ready to play with you. Be the first for the little girls ..." (sic). "The federal indictments allege that [another perpetrator] and Doerr attempted to obtain a person under the age of 18 to engage in a commercial sex act on Jan. 31, 2009."
