Mariska Trisanti and her husband Herri Nasution recruited two women from Indonesia to come to Los Angeles to work in their home. Trisanti brought the victims to the US in 1997, on a tourist visa under the agreement that they would work for two years as nannies and housekeepers in her home. After arrival, Trisanti took their passports and other documents. The victims were forced to work seven days a week, for 17 hours or more each day. They were threatened with physical abuse and told they would be sent to jail if they did not work. The victims were not paid for their work.

Response & intervention
In 2004, both Trisanti and Nasution pleaded guilty to involuntary servitude, harboring undocumented women, and visa fraud. In March 2005, Trisanti was sentenced to 46 months in prison, and ordered to pay the victims $203,000 in restitution. In August 2004, Nasution was sentenced to six months home detention, and three years of supervised release.
In 2000, Trisanti traveled to Indonesia, leaving the victims with Nasution. The victims managed to escape, and alerted local law enforcement. The case was then investigated by ICE agents, FBI agents, and the Labor Department.
