An elder woman in the community where the victim lived. The trafficker offered to let the teenage victim live in her home while the victim was having family problems. The victim accepted and moved in. For over two years the victim was locked in the home and was not allowed to leave. The trafficker was abusive and threatening and forced the young woman to care for the trafficker's children. The trafficker also forced the young woman to sell Khat. The trafficker stole the victim's identity and used it to collect government benefits for herself. After the young woman had escaped the trafficker continued to harass and threaten the victim.

Response & intervention
A Civil Society attorney has accompanied the young woman to the police department and helped her report what had happened. A Civil Society attorney is also helping the young woman file a harassment restraining order against the trafficker.
An attorney of Civil Society is assisting the young woman with immigration issues that she now faces because of her victimization. She had a green card but all of her other documents had been taken by the trafficker. Civil Society took her to USCIS, which reissued her refugee documents. Civil Society attorneys are currently working to address the woman's victimization issues.

The now 20-year old victim sought out a human trafficking clinic for assistance with an identity theft issue. After speaking with the victim, Civil Society attorneys consulted and determined that this young woman is a victim of human trafficking.
