Mercedes Farquharson, 63, was arrested in Bulgaria in July after three years on the run. The woman was extradited to North Carolina facing multiple charges of forced labor and servitude. Farquharson kept three children under her control, forcing them to work on a farm in Monroe without breaks and sometimes with no sleep. She claimed to be a religious deity and convinced the biological mother to give her the girls. Farquharson adopted one of the children.
