Gary Gates and Tamisha Heyward operated a sex trafficking ring from their home on the internet. Victims, as young at 14, were forced to perform sex acts. Gates beat women who did not do as he told them, and sexually assaulted many of them. Gates also provided drugs to many of the victims. The victims were kept in their home at 16th St. NE.

Response & intervention
In May, 2004 Gates and Heyward plead guilty to sex trafficking. Gates was sentenced to 178 months in prison, and fined $1,000. Heyward was sentenced to 108 months in prison, five years of supervised release, and fined $5,000.
