Fernando Pascual smuggled the 13-year old victim into the U.S. from Guatemala in 2004. She was forced to work as a domestic servant in his home, and was also kept as a sex slave by Pascual and his brother, Mario Pascual. The victim was sold to Fernando Pascual by her mother and stepfather. He fathered the victim's 2-year-old son.

Sebastian Pascual pled guilty to harboring an illegal alien, and was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison. His wife, Matilde Pascual Andres (the trafficker's sister), was also sentenced to 22 months in prison for harboring the victim.
There is controversy surrounding the victim's emancipation, as the police took a long time to remove the girl from the situation, despite investigations. Also, the local hospital became suspicious when they delivered the victim's child.
