In February and March 2011, undercover officers contacted 71 potential victims through sex ads and agreed to meet them at seedy local motels. Once there, investigators worked to learn more about them and find out why they were in the sex trade. "We found two 17 year old females who were working out of the local motel, and again, through the assistance of the vice investigators and the counselling and guidance, located their parents and returned them back to their parents," McDonald told 680News. The youngest "had been lured from another province to Ontario, and in a very short period of time, she was put into a local motel and was working in the sex trade." All but one of the six women and girls were from Canada, but most came to Peel Region from other parts of the country. Many cited a troubled childhood or the desire to make more money as their reasons for coming to the region. Services were provided by local agencies.
