The child was used for 18 months in the shrine. Then her eye teeth were cut out of her jaw for use in ritual "magic", she was stuffed into a bag and discarded in the next province, the Masaka District. A woman saw the bag and detected movement. She found the child in terrible condition, covered in her own excrement. The child's neck showed signs of having been tied tightly with a rope over a long period of time. The woman cleaned the child up, took her to a hospital for treatment, and contacted the police.

Response & intervention
They were contacted by the rescuer and have worked with her and with the NGO Every Child Ministries to arrange appropriate aftercare.
The child is now with the family that rescued her, by permission of the original family. It is felt unsafe for her to go back to her village, but she has been back there for a visit. She has developed cerebral palsy as a result of her ordeal. Every Child Ministries has given her a special cp chair, repaired the foster family's tumble down hut to enable them to care for her, and provided medication and a healthy diet, as well as spiritual support.
