Shaniya was staying with her father, who had custody; however, he decided to let Shaniya stay with her mother for a month, because she had become financially stable. Davis is now being charged with human trafficking and felony child abuse.

Shaniya had been missing for a week. Law enforcement officers received a tip from a hotel employee, who had spotted Shaniya with Mario Andrette McNeill. McNeill is being charged with kidnapping. A week after Shaniya went missing her body was found in the woods 30 miles from her hometown.
