wo American couples, Suzan Hagoulf & Medhat Metyas and Iris Botros & Louis Andros, were arrested in December of 2008 after applying for US passports for two children through the US Embassy in Cairo. The embassy officials identified the documents as fraudulent, notified the Egyptian Authorities, which resulted in the couples arrest. The investigation revealed collusion with orphanage employees who regularly forged documents for Christian adoptions. The trial began in May of 2009, in conjunction with another couple accused of the same crime. Sept. 7, 2009.The four were convicted of human trafficking and each received two years in jail and fine of $18,153US.
