"Jefferson Davis, 22, has been indicted by a federal grand jury following his arrest in Portland on August 12. The indictment alleges that Davis transported the girl across four states as he forced her to work as a prostitute. Davis is alleged to have struck, beaten, and otherwise physically assaulted the minor whenever she refused to work as a prostitute…. Davis obtained the minor’s address and told her that, ‘if she went to the police or talked about her trafficking, he would kill her family,’” according to a statement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

"Davis faces several charges including sex trafficking, transportation, and the forced labor of a 13-year-old female with the intent to engage in prostitution. No bail was set for Davis, because the judge deemed him a flight risk. A conviction for sex trafficking of a minor carries a mandatory minimum 15-year sentence to a maximum of life imprisonment. Davis’ trial was scheduled to begin on October 19."
